Educator Awards


NYS TESOL Jillian Branciforte Scholarship Award

Awarded to a promising new K-12 ENL teacher in their first three years of teaching. 

Jillian Branciforte was a dedicated ENL teacher whom we lost suddenly on September 6, 2024.  Jill was known for her vibrant spirit, genuine care for her students, and involvement in various volunteer activities.  

This annual scholarship award will honor Jill's legacy as a member of NYS TESOL, reflecting on the incredible impact she had on our community and the countless lives she touched.  Her light will continue to inspire us all.

Teacher Materials Grant

Provides funding for materials or experiences which directly enrich students' language, academic, and cultural learning experiences.  ELLs may be of any age or level.  Materials should be for a project/activity/lesson that you propose in the application, and not for everyday classroom supplies (e.g. paper, markers).  Submit one page document outlining proposed project.  Grantees will be required to submit an article about the project to NYS TESOL for publication.

Marie and Richard Baecher Teacher Leadership Award

To recognize the important contribution teacher leaders make to English learner education, this award goes to an educator with at least five years of teaching experience in the field of TESOL (elementary, secondary, adult, or higher education). The nominee should demonstrate leadership beyond the classroom (at the school, district, regional level) that supports the academic and social well-being of English learners in New York state ESL and bilingual programs.  This leadership is not administrative but as a coach, professional development provider, curriculum designer, or community organizer.
