Share Your Expertise: Host a Virtual Session with the NYS TESOL Community

One of the best ways to grow as educators is by learning from one another. Every day, NYS TESOL members are developing innovative instructional practices, conducting research, creating resources, advocating for multilingual learners, and finding creative solutions to challenges in the field. We believe those experiences deserve to be shared.

Have you ever attended a conference presentation, participated in professional learning, or implemented a successful classroom strategy and thought, "I'd love to talk about this with colleagues"? Now is your opportunity.

NYS TESOL is seeking members interested in hosting virtual community sessions. These sessions provide an informal and supportive space for educators to connect, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about topics that matter to our profession.

You do not need to be a seasoned presenter to facilitate a session. If you have a passion for a topic and a willingness to share your experiences, we encourage you to get involved. You will have support in setting up all the logistics and that someone from EB will be there the day of your event, as well.

Unlike conference presentations, virtual community sessions can be scheduled throughout the year, offering a flexible way to share your expertise when the time is right for you. Whether you have a fully developed presentation or simply want to facilitate a conversation around an important topic, we welcome your ideas.

Possible session topics include:

• Effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners

• AI and educational technology

• Literacy development

• Advocacy and policy updates

• Family and community engagement

• Co-teaching and collaboration

• Social-emotional learning

• Assessment and accountability

• Research and classroom inquiry

• Leadership development

• Cultural responsiveness and equity

• Successful programs and initiatives in your school or district

Virtual sessions can take many forms, including presentations, workshops, panel discussions, roundtable conversations, book studies, resource-sharing events, or informal discussions centered on a topic of interest.

How to Propose a Virtual Session

Getting started is easy:

1. Identify a topic you are passionate about.
2. Develop a brief description of your proposed session.
3. Consider the format that would best engage participants.
4. Submit your proposal using this form: https://form.jotform.com/261738726648067 
5. Receive approval email from EB and our Business Manager.
6. Send your graphic with blurb for social media and any associated links at least 2 weeks in advance. (Details will be provided.)
7. A member of the NYS TESOL team will follow up to discuss scheduling and logistics. You will have support in setting up the sign up, zoom link and other logistics. Someone from EB will be there that day, as well.
