NYS TESOL Call for Nominations


    

Each spring, the NYS TESOL Nominating Committee is charged with presenting a slate of qualified candidates for various positions on the Executive Board. This year, those positions are First Vice President, Second Vice President-Elect, and Executive Board member. We invite your participation in this important process. Please help us identify competent, energetic, committed members of NYS TESOL to serve in these important leadership roles, people who will work on your behalf and represent you, the NYS TESOL members.
Below are the basic qualifications for these elected offices, followed by descriptions of each position for which nominees are sought. Please see the NYS TESOL Constitution and By-Laws posted on our Web site for further details about Executive Board functions at http://www.nystesol.org/about.html.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Member in good standing of NYS TESOL.
  2. Actively involved in the organization in some capacity at the local, regional, or state level or through SIG activities.
  3. Interested in helping shape the future of NYS TESOL and willing to make a commitment to do so.
  4. In addition, any candidate for First Vice President must be an outgoing or former Executive Board member, voting or non-voting.

First Vice President
The First Vice President

  1. Serves as President in the event of the absence or disability of the president;
  2. Chairs the Finance Committee and prepares the annual budget with the treasurer;
  3. Oversees the SIGs and Regions, and other committees at the request of the President;
  4. Is an ex officio member of all standing committees except the Nominating Committee;
  5. Makes a three- year commitment: one year each as First Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President.

Second Vice President-Elect
The Second Vice President-Elect:

  1. Serves as Assistant Chair and Finance Chair for the Annual Conference;
  2. Serves as a member of the Finance Committee;
  3. Serves as Chair of the Site Selection Committee for the conference two years ahead;
  4. Makes a two-year commitment: one as Second Vice President-Elect and one as Second Vice President.

Executive Board

Five of the ten members are elected each year. Together with the officers, the Board members manage the business of NYS TESOL in the best interests of the members and the organization as a whole. The Board reflects the range of professional (SIG) and geographical (Regions) constituencies in NYS TESOL.

Each Board member:

  1. Serves a two-year term;
  2. Attends all Executive Board meetings:
  3. Serves as assistant chair one year, and chair the next, of a standing committee as described in the NYS TESOL Constitution and By-Laws (http://www.nystesol.org/nomination/nomination.html).
