Meet the NYS TESOL Member of the Month
for January 2015

Christine Pearsall

Christine Pearsall
Long Island Region

Congratulations to Christine Pearsall, an elementary ESL teacher in the Patchogue-Medford School district, and the inaugural NYS TESOL Member of the Month for January 2015. Christine was nominated by a long-standing colleague from Patchogue-Medford who affirms that, "Christine goes above and beyond to support her students and their families." Christine's service outside school hours includes working with parents to share information vital to student success. Partnering with the Patchogue-Medford public library, Christine develops multi-media presentations and workshops for both native-English speaking and non-native English speaking parents, including local organizations such as Madres Latinas. Christine goes beyond her job description at school, as well. She is an advocate for her students, and works tirelessly to seek out resources and support for ELLs. She also supports her educator colleagues, mentoring new teachers and sharing her technology resources and skills with any and all who are interested. Christine organized the school-based Bilingual Information Nights program to inform parents about school policies and procedures and is instrumental in preparing material for district-wide use at Bilingual Nights. In 2013-14, Christine was selected to serve as a district ESL coach, sharing her knowledge and expertise in ESL methodologies with colleagues in her building. Christine also shares her knowledge and experience with colleagues around the state as a presenter at NYS TESOL conferences and other professional development events.
