"Bridging the Gap: A Discussion Forum for ESL Professionals"
Saturday, October 18, 2008
1:00- 4:00pm
at Pace University (downtown NYC campus)
This event is a venue where ESL professionals can come together and discuss relevant issues and share ideas across specializations and across the instructor-administrator divide and across the secondary education-higher education divide.
Participants will join one of 3 workshops:
- Community ESL and Adult Literacy ESL
"An Humanistic Approach to ELL Teaching"
Discussion Leaders: Dara Fulton & Elaine Roberts
- K-12 ESL
"Writing Strategies for Students: Addressing the High-School to College Curriculum Gap"
Discussion Leader: Stacey Fellom
- Higher Education
"ESL
The Idiomatic and the Academic: The Dual Transition of the ELI Student"
Discussion Leaders: Lisa Kraft & Agie Markiewicz
The workshops will be followed by discussions regarding concerns and issues about ESL education in the particular areas (K-12, Adult/Community, and Higher Ed.). We will then convene in a large whole-group discussion.
Refreshments will be served.
